Building conservation organizations

National organizations that support the conservation of historic buildings:

  1. The Canadian Association of Heritage Professional (CAHP) is an organization that verifies professionals as being qualified for working with Historic Buildings in Canada. Information on their members and suggested practices from them can be found on their website at:  www.cahp-acecp.ca
  2. The National Trust for Canada, which is a national charity that leads the charge in engaging Canadians to conserve heritage places, raise awareness, and save historic properties:  http://www.nationaltrustcanada.ca/.  They also keep an extensive list of sources of funding across Canada:  https://regenerationworks.ca/resources/find-funding/
  3. The National Trust for Canada has a division “Regeneration Works” that provides a wealth of resources for conservation projects, including places of faith: https://regenerationworks.ca/
  4. Faith & the Common Good is working with the National Trust for Canada on saving places of faith.  They provide extensive resources, including workshop very practical toolkits, self-audit tool kits, presentations and more.  If you are involved in caring for a place of faith, this is must visit site:  https://www.faithcommongood.org/
  5. The federal agency Parks Canada owns and operates historic sites and buildings across the country.  They provide the Canadian standards and guidelines for working with historic buildings:  https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/culture/rclp-crhp/standards

 

International oragnizations that support the conservation of historic buildings:

  1. Association of Preservation Technology is an international multi-disciplinary organization that promotes the practices for saving built historic structures:  http://www.apti.org/index.php?src=&submenu
  2. The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is a global non-environmental group dedicated to saving world cultural heritage: http://canada.icomos.org/
